RAMSES Project
The project aims at towards bypassing all the problems related to the progressively increasing prices of fuels derived from fossil resources. This increase in prices is especially damaging for agriculture. Modern agriculture is heavily dependent on fossil fuels for agricultural vehicles, machines, processors, etc. Farmers everywhere in the world have been badly hit by the increase in fuel prices, especially since agricultural fuels are often not taxed, or only lightly taxed, so that the burden of every increase in prices in the world market hits directly farm’s finances.

This goal will be attained by developing an integrated all–solar power system. The innovative element of such a system is the dual use of batteries, which not only provide energy storage, but also power for an all purpose electric vehicle. The system is therefore as a multi-purpose, integrated “energy system” for a series of services which include energy storage, power production on demand, back-up power system against grid black-outs (frequent in Mediterranean countries). It can be used for a variety of purposes such as crops transportation, spraying of pesticides, irrigation, crops collection and it can be used also as an all purpose, low speed road vehicle.

The envisaged system is especially suitable for Southern Mediterranean countries where the potential for renewable energy is very high in terms of solar irradiation. As a further advantage, the use of clean energy for farm services and transportation can dramatically decrease the pollution caused by the use of conventional engines. The vehicle will be, in addition, specifically targeted to service some agricultural cultivation typical of Mediterranean countries such as open-air greenhouse cultivations, terrace cultivations, etc…
