Alex Med Center “Alexandria & Mediterranean Research Center”

Alex Med is dedicated to revive the city’s pivotal position in the Mediterranean and become a cultural center for the Euro-Mediterranean Region and the Middle East, to spread internationalism and promote a healthy spirit of diversity, pluralism and interaction among civilizations.

The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) documents and researches the tangible and intangible heritage of Alexandria and the Mediterranean, whilst aiming to promote dialogue and exchange in the region. It seeks both to preserve the past and to promote the future development of the city of Alexandria.
Preserving both the tangible and intangible heritage is a key area of concern. Alex Med’s Architectural Studies Unit works on projects which aim to foster the preservation of the city’s tangible heritage: notably its architectural cultural heritage. Preservation projects involve research, surveys, reconstructions, and documentation and data collection of many aspects of the built environment dating from different epochs of the city’s history.
These objectives are covered by a wide range of activities including local and international projects on urban development and heritage preservation, as well as events such as seminars, conferences and exhibitions.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
International cooperation is a key factor in many of Alex Med's projects, enabling to share resources and expertise on the one hand, and to promote dialogue and exchange on the other. The European Union in particular, has sponsored a number of original and groundbreaking projects:

DIALOGUE, EXCHANGE AND DISSEMINATION
Dialogue and exchange are key goals of many of the center’s projects and activities. These occur at various levels: dialogue and exchange between project partners across the Mediterranean.

Dialogue is also fostered with the general public attending the center’s numerous open events such as seminars, conferences and exhibitions
