SOUTH-EAST ARCHERITAGE - Roman Empire Common Heritage in Southern and Eastern ENPI Countries
SOUTH-EAST ARCHERITAGE is a project funded by the European Union under the programme Ciudad - Cooperation In Urban Development And Dialogue - which aims to promote sustainable tourism and strategies of territorial planning through the valorization of the Roman Empire archaeological sites.
The program CIUDAD, funded by the European Neighourhood Partnership Instrument (ENPI), aims to help local governments in the ENPI region to improve their ability to plan a long term urban development at the meantime sustainable and integrated by respecting the principles of good governance. The program promotes mutual understanding, exchange of experiences and cooperation between local EU actors and partner countries of ENPI region in the implementation of joint projects.
SOUTH-EAST ARCHERITAGE will contribute to the enhancement of sustainable economic development of EU and Southern and Eastern ENPI urban areas, by creating stable relationships among PA and operators in the field of archaeological and cultural sustainable tourism.
The involved Countries and regions (Italy - Sardinia – Province of Cagliari; Romania – Hunedoara County; Tunisia – Cape Bon – Nabeul; Russian Federation – Krasnodar Region – Temryuk District), with a great potential to increase their capacity of endogenous growth, have a common history and cultural heritage due to the presence of Roman Empire.
This proposal aims at creating a network among these “similar” territories in order to implement common policies and strategies of tourism promotion and improves the socio-economic development of the involved urban and rural areas.
The basic idea of the project is to recover the “production” processes, methods and materials used by ancients Romans and turn them into products which will be integrated in the local tourism offer. For every involved territory will be identified specific productions and, after that, a sort of international “itinerary” of the Roman’s productions will be built.
In detail, the project includes the following activities:
- Analysis of the archaeological tourism sector and definition of a common strategy
- Transfer of competences and exchange of experiences
- Design of the initiative web site and promotion of “Roman Empire Common Heritage” touristic offer on international level
- Diffusion of the project outcomes
- Project management
The main expected results are:
- Knowledge and awareness of how archaeological-monumental resources of the 4 regions involved can be integrated in local tourism development
- Promotion of good practices and models of excellence in cultural and archaeological heritage management and promotion
- Development of common strategies and actions for the promotion of the Roman Empire common heritage
